About www.ktm.org.nz |

www.ktm.org.nz was created for Kaiapoi Toastmasters, New Zealand. All these pages are published with authority and permission from our club president, Stephen Ede. Stephen Ede is the official publisher of these pages. Some things you may be interested in: Images were created with The Gimp, a freeware image manipulation program. It can run on MS Windows, Mac OS, Linux and Unix. Gimp was also used to tidy up photos and reduce them to a reasonable filesize. All pages are written with non-proprietary software. Even though these pages were mostly written in Macromedia Dreamweaver, freeware software is suitable to edit existing pages and create more pages. These may include NVu , Arachnophilia , FirstPage and PSPad. Countless others exist (try NoNags to find some.) Even opening a file from FileZilla into a text editor will work; that's what I do occasionally. It would pay to find an editor that you yourself like. All FTP uploads are done with FileZilla, a freeware FTP client. Scripted pages (in the secure section) are written with PHP. The database is flat, rather than using something like mySQL. This allows easy file (data) manipulation with an ftp editor if necessary. Screenshots of scripted pages are available here, although it may take a while to download the images. This is an example of what is possible to help a club. All these pages are dynamic, ie the html is generated on-the-fly according to what's in the database of files. Anyone in the Kaiapoi Toastmasters club can add to the database. That's the concept that I strived towards. If someone makes a mistake in a file they upload (a spelling mistake, the wrong file uploaded, etc), they can correct it themselves. They do not need to know HTML or contact the webmaster to upload files or change something. Hosting is done through Webbase. I have no affiliation with Webbase, but I put their name on here because they have always given good support when needed. They are also the cheapest I could find. Prices vary widely between hosts. Be warned - don't be ripped off. Feel free to contact me if there is anything you would like to know.
